The United Kingdom has pledged stronger collaboration with Nigeria to combat cybercrime and transnational fraud. This was made known during a visit by Rt. Hon. Lord George David Hanson, UK Home Office Minister, to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja.
Accompanied by officials from the UK Home Office, National Crime Agency, and UK High Commission, the Minister praised the NPF-NCCC as a “centre of excellence” in the global fight against cybercrime. He emphasized that fraud and cybercrime cause real harm and must be tackled through international cooperation.
Lord Hanson also highlighted the UK’s efforts to combat cyber threats, including a new national fraud strategy and initiatives to prevent AI-driven scams and improve public awareness.
Director of NPF-NCCC, CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to global cyber safety. He stressed the importance of technology, global collaboration, and victim support in fighting cybercrime.
The visit precedes a major international cybercrime conference to be hosted by the UK in Vienna next year, with Nigeria invited to participate. The UK delegation ended the visit with a tour of the Centre’s facilities and technical demonstrations.
